After a dominant 13-0 win over Campolindo on April 7, Encinal stumbled against Alameda on April 8, falling 10-0. The loss snapped a 4 game win streak for the Jets.
“I thought that it was going to be a good game,” said senior Sherrielyn Ferrer, who received a concussion during the game, “but the outcome was very disappointing…My helmet flew off because I got hit in the neck, and got a concussion with a contusion.”
The Jets mustered three hits in total against the Hornets, from senior Kiely Wong, and sophomores Laniya Robinson and Arianna Romero. Wong has performed consistently this season, with the team’s highest batting average of .439.
“It’s a reflection of all the work I’ve been putting in through preseason and then during the season as well,” Wong said. “I’m hoping to continue the success that I’ve had so far throughout the rest of the season.”
Their next game is on April 29 against St. Joseph’s, with a rematch against Alameda around the corner, on May 8.
Current record: 6-8 (0-2)
Baseball
Encinal varsity baseball has hit a rough spot in their season after starting strong, going 1-4 in the past two weeks. The Jets suffered a sweep against their island rivals Alameda High, losing 10-2 on April 8 and 8-2 on April 14. However, they split their series with Berkeley, losing 6-4 before bouncing back with a 8-4 win on April 25.
“It’s obviously a bit of a rough patch right now… but we’re ready to grind and we’re ready to come back, work hard, and ready to ball,” sophomore Dominic Dollar said.
This stretch has highlighted opportunities for the team to grow.
“I think we’re going to focus more on the smaller things that we need to improve, like the mental side… and getting the fundamentals down so we don’t make as many errors,” senior Matan Antebi said.
The losing streak gives the team a reality-check after their historic start, as the Jets now sit at 5th in league. Their next game is against Castro Valley on April 28.
Current record: 13-6 (2-4)

Encinal has a single meet against Mt. Eden on Apr. 24 at Chabot College followed by the WACC championships on May 1.
“I feel like the entirety of swim is to keep pushing on and becoming someone who’s working with the team to improve,” said sophomore Liam Wong. “I hope to meet more of the team, improve myself, and help improve the team.”

Men’s Tennis
Encinal Men’s tennis went 2-2 the past two weeks, beating Mt. Eden 7-0 and then falling to Castro Valley 6-1 on April 9. Then, after an uncharacteristic 5-2 loss to Hayward, the Jets grabbed a crucial 4-3 win over San Leandro on April 24.
“We had some of our players out,” said junior Cosmo Mayes. “I had to play with a new teammate [freshman Marco Pereira] but we communicated well.”
Encinal still sits in second place in league with three matches remaining in the season. Junior Henry Atwood surprised teammates as the only win against Castro Valley.
“Quite a few of us, me included, were watching [Henry],” said junior Simon Tisdale, “We were cheering him on the whole time, and it definitely gave him the spirit.”

Men’s Golf
Encinal went 0-3 in April, losing to Piedmont (226-204), Alameda, and O’Dowd (236-193).

In early April, the Jets faced Alameda in the Island Drive but ended up with another loss.
“The game against Alameda went pretty well, you know, we had our ups and downs. It ended up in a loss but I think the team did decently,” said senior Noah Lurkis.
