Encinal baseball beat Mount Eden 11-0 on April 1 and Oakland Tech 8-2 on April 3, giving the Jets a three game win streak after splitting their series against Bishop O’Dowd the week prior.
“We’re a really determined team,” junior Sebastian Brune said. “We’re not satisfied… we’re always chasing bigger and better things.”
The team is currently ranked #3 in NCS Division III and is off to one of the best starts in school history.
“It shows how much work we put in in the off-season,” junior Miles Acevedo said.
The Jets look to add to their win total this upcoming week, facing Alameda on Apr. 8 and 10 in the Island Series.

Men’s Volleyball 🏐
Encinal men’s volleyball split two games last week, beating San Lorenzo 3-0 on April 1 before taking a rough 3-2 loss to San Leandro the next day.
“It felt pretty good,” said junior setter Ian Madsen. “We beat them last year and the year before that but you know, everyone feels pretty good.”
The Jets were up 2-1 against San Leandro but lost the 4th and 5th sets, 25-21 and 16-14 respectively.
“You know, losing in general sucks,” said junior Orion Juhas. “It was a close game, and I do think we played very well. Their team played well, I feel like a few of the calls went their way…It was definitely a very fun game. We worked great as a team, great communication, great energy, the entire way through.”
The Jets play at Tennyson on Apr. 8 after winning 3-0 to Mt. Eden on Apr. 6, which moved them to 2nd in league.

Swim 🏊
The Jest faced San Leandro in a duel meet on April 3. The Encinal women swam away with a strong 111-54 win while the men won 103-56. The Jets had nine swimmers finsh first and five swimmers finish second.
“I think we did pretty good,” said freshman Temujin Bayasgalan. “I could have done a lot better…put more work in.”
The women’s team saw two swimmers reach season bests (Hanna Hosmer and Kylie Wong), and six personal bests (Isabel Keim, Serafina Sanguinetti, Hannah Reid, Lucie Harriet, and Eleanor Hahnel).
“The team needs to bond more,” said sophomore Eleanor Hahnel. “We need to practice our relays more in practice, because transitions can be hard, and it’s very easy to be disqualified.”
Their next meet is the Island Splash against Alameda High at the Encinal Swim Center on Apr. 7.

Softball 🥎
Encinal softball won two important games this past week against Arroyo and San Leandro. The Jets crushed the Dons and Pirates by scores 11-1 and 12-2 respectively, moving their win streak to three games.
“I think we went with really good energy,” senior captain Sherrielyn Ferrer said, “just based off of our warmups, I knew that we were gonna have a good game because everything was sharp.”
The Jets are preparing to face rival Alameda on Apr. 8 at Washington Park.
“We’re practicing a lot and working on a lot of situations to prepare us for [the] games,” junior Sonia Walker said.

Badminton 🏸
Encinal badminton went 0-2 last week, falling to San Lorenzo 9-6 on April 2 and then losing to Piedmont the next day.
“Our strengths were in key work in our rotations and we had very little mistakes,” junior Kyle Diep said.

Tennis 🎾
Men’s tennis took a tough league loss to Arroyo on April 2, losing 4-3. Despite the loss, the team has making huge improvements compared to last season.
“I lost pretty badly, but the kid was way better than me,” junior Noah Balingit said. “I believe I played very well to the best of my ability.”
Encinal takes on Mt. Eden on the road Apr. 7.
