The Encinal women’s varsity soccer team has had a rough season thus far, with an overall record of 2-8 and a league record of 0-3. The Jets are currently 6th in league, competing against some of the toughest schools in the area (Piedmont, Alameda, Berkeley, Bishop O’Dowd, Castro Valley).
Senior Fiona Fix captains alongside Junior Evie Otieku, leading Encinal’s team this 2025-26 season.
“We are in the same league as extremely competitive schools like [Bishop] O’Dowd and Berkeley,” said Fix. “However, I think we are getting better with each game and working together well, so I imagine it will be a good [rest of the] season.”
The Jets started off with two losses against Terra Linda (2-0) and Livermore (3-0) but came back with two back-to-back wins against Oakland (3-0) and San Leandro (1-0). After a 2-0 loss against Oakland Tech, they began playing in league.
“I think they do a really great job keeping our heads up no matter the situation and constantly pushing us to do our best,” said junior goalie Roxy Faizi. “They’re very supportive, especially during difficult moments, and they help bring the team together and keep us working as a unit.”
After losing several seniors from the class of 2025, new players have been introduced, so the team is still working on their overall flow.
“With so many new players and not a lot of practice time, we’re still learning each other,” said junior Rhianna Farris. “Hopefully during the actual season it will click and we will find our rhythm.”
The Jets had the opportunity to play on the brand new field on Jan. 13 against Berkeley. They lost 6-0, but remained fortunate and ready, motivated with their new home field.
“Playing on the new field was definitely a fun experience,” said Farris. “I loved how the boys team came and supported us. Even though it was a tough loss, it was still nice to break it in and play our hearts out.”
After a hard first month, the girls are looking forward to the rest of the season and hopefully qualifying for NCS. Their next game is against Piedmont on Jan. 28.
